A native of North Carolina, Debby studied ballet and modern dance at North Carolina School of the arts. She holds degrees in Theater from East Carolina University and Secondary Education from MSU. While a graduate student at the University of Nebraska, Debby began teaching college classes and has now taught 23 years. She has choreographed 89 full theater productions, including operas, musicals and dance concerts.
Debby has served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Dance Association and as Vice-President of Dance of MAPHERD. In 1999, she won the Pride of Teaching Award. She is founding member of the Starkville Arts Council and serves as dance representative on the Board of Directors.
Debby is married to Brent Funderburk, Professor of Art at MSU and they have two sons, Wyatt, a professional musician and Jackson, an MSU landscape architecture student. Debby enjoys hiking, books, music and travel.
