Enhance Faculty and Student Academic Achievement and Improve the Department’s Academic Culture

Narrative: The Department of Kinesiology provides students with excellent professional enrichment opportunities to affect job and graduate school placement. Faculty members are successful in their professional development as teachers, mentors, and researchers. A cultivation of student and faculty professional experiences and achievements will result in the department being recognized for its scholarly achievement.

Objective 1: Place a significant number of students in jobs and graduate schools appropriate to their field.

  • Strategy 1A: Development and distribution of a post-graduate questionnaire identifying the following within one year of the implementation of the strategic plan: – I
    • Job placement relevant to the graduate’s field of study
    • Graduate school placement

Objective 2: Utilize relevant internships and practical experiences to improve the professional experiences of students.

Objective 3: Promote experiential teaching and learning through relevant faculty/student research.

Objective 4: Provide additional graduate assistantships in each academic area to encourage scholarly development.

Objective 6: Provide graduate students with quality pedagogical experiences in classes at the undergraduate level.

Objective 10: Strengthen departmental curricula through periodic review to: 1) adjust to societal and professional needs, 2) reduce redundancy, and 3) improve learning outcomes.

Objective 11: Foster good citizenship in students and faculty through involvement in department activities, such as faculty research, departmental symposia, and outreach to the campus and Starkville community.

Ending Narrative: Success with Strategic Goal 3 aligns with the mission and vision of the Department of Kinesiology by providing students with professional enrichment opportunities to increase job and graduate school placement. Faculty members will be successful in their professional development as teachers, mentors, and researchers. A cultivation of student and faculty professional experiences and achievements will result in increasing the recognition the department receives for its scholarly work.
