The Department of Kinesiology offers four Bachelor of Science degree concentrations (clinical exercise physiology, health fitness studies, Physical Education and Coaching, and sport studies). The clinical exercise physiology concentration prepares students for careers as exercise physiologists in cardiac and pulmonary rehabilitation, or other clinical rehabilitation settings, such as those for individuals with diabetes, orthopedic limitations, arthritis, cancer, osteoporosis, renal failure, obesity, and in programs dealing with issues of aging. The clinical exercise physiology concentration also provides students with the necessary background to pursue graduate health professions, such as physical or occupational therapy, physician assistant studies, and medicine. The health fitness studies concentration prepares students for careers as fitness instructors, strength and conditioning specialists, directors of wellness and fitness programs associated with hospitals or geriatric centers, or in employee assistance in the corporate setting. The Physical Education and Coaching concentration prepares students for careers as physical education teachers and coaches in public and private school settings. The sport studies concentration prepares students for careers in the sport industry, including positions with professional sport franchises, college athletic departments, recreational sport programs, and sport media/communication organizations. Each concentration also prepares students for graduate study at the master’s degree level.
